Transfer Raid5-Array-harddrives to different server
Because of a probably damaged motherboard in a PE1800 and the need of a very quick workaround we are thinking of transfering a Raid5-Array-Set of Hardrives (3 Drives with an additional hot-spare) to another PE1800.
The fundamental question is were the PE1800 stores it array-informations.
It is stored on the harddrives or in an VRAM on the Raid-Controller?
In first case it should be adequate just to move the four harddrives to the other PE1800 an plug them in. (After removing the the oringinally harddrives from this server)
In second case would it be adequate to move the discs and the controller.
What do you think about this hazardous plan. Any other ideas, recommends or warnings?
Please answer contemporary - we are under compulsion to reanimate the server particularly the files on the drives.

- Thank you for this information.
We already done it, because we had to provide this server on Monday Morning.
What we have done is listed below:
- remove the harddrives in the faultless server
- start this server without harddrives and enter the Raid Array Configuration with CTRL+M
- clear the array information
- power down this server
- install the harddrives
- power up this server
- the raid array information will automatically be read in the boot sequence
And it worked fine!

To move them, it's easy. Make sure both carry the same type of controller and just get in the donor server and clear the configuration on it, then shut it off, put the HDD with info on it, in the same order and slot, then get back into the raid controller and you will get ask to use the configuration on the HDD. If your lucky enough, it will take with out prompt.
