When using Dell  Resource CD for diagnostics, I get the message:

Trap 00000006 Exception Error

I have a Poweredge 2400 server running Win 2K Server. First thing I saw when I went to office was this message: "No bootable device detected". I tried everything and then Dell support tried everything. Now the system starts and gives "Trap 00000006 Exception Error" with the standard data. After surfing forums I tried the jsinc method of repairing the Windows 2K installation, but when I try to Repair OR clean install win 2k again, it gives error message saying "No hard drives detected, make sure blah blah...."

The system is  Poweredge 2400 833 MHz, with 4 SCSI Drives running on RAID 5. I have updated the firmware, BIOS etc too.

Now I need to get data out of the Hard Disks ASAP, as my office is suffering because of this problem. Do I order a new Motherboard with new DIMM and hardware key OR is there a better suggestion.

Any help at the earliest will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

I did a repair install which fixed it the problem you needed to boot to the Windows cd that Dell provided you with an then run a repair install on the system. If that does not work you will need to reinstall your os. If You have any data that needed to be backed up there are a bunch of companies that specailize in that service one company is http://drivesavers.com/ or you can click on this link an it will give you a quote from a bunch of different vendors http://www.buyerzone.com/computers/backup-remote/qz_questions_7.jhtml?_requestid=14017

You do not know how to do this Please Call Dell Tech support for the consumer call 800-624-9896 Business Cust Call 800-822-8965

ok guys this is just one situtation i had with this error trap 00000006 error machine dell 170l

i tried everything bios options memory , reseated stuff.

then i checked the keyboard and mouse pins.

the keyboards pins were bent by the user by mistake while reseating it.

so i straightened them out and voila pc booted fine .

not saying this will fix all those issues with this problem but this is one of the solutions and something you can check.
