Virtual Disk Failed
Hi there.
I have a Poweredge Unit connected to two MD1200s. Each MD had a virtual disk on it. Several of those disks failed rapidly, leading to the RAID-5 Virtual Disk being marked as "Failed". I have replaced the disks with working ones. They are now in the "Ready" state, and assigned as "Global Hot Spares". The Virtual Disk is still marked as "Failed" and it does not list the "Ready" disks in it's inventory. Is it possible to add those disks back to the existing VD? If not, what is the process to create a new VD, and is there any chance to do this without removing the data that is on the disks that didn't fail?
Thanks,
David

Hi David,
the Rebuild from a Raid 5 is only possible as long the Raid is only degraded.
If the Raid is Failed then the Data is gone and you have to use your Backup.
Did you have any further questions?

Hi Martin, thanks for the reply,
So even if some of thes disks weren't strictly wiped, there's no way to restore from them in such a way as to preserve some portion of the original data (that makes sense, being a RAID device).
Thanks,
David
