What if RAID Controller Fails?

If the RAID controller fails, what is required to get RAID up and running again?

Thank you for using Dell Talk

If the Raid controller fails the only way to access your data is to replace the Raid controller with a good controller that of the same model.

can you replace the Controller card (4E/DC) in the server without losing the data in the Physical Raid Drives?  How do you replace the failed controller with a new one and NOT lose your data?

Thanks

In the case of an adapter failure, which is extremely rare, the replaced adapter will read the configuration from the stored information on the disks. The cables need to be replaced to the same channels as they were connected to the "fail" adapter or you could possibly lose the array; I have mistakenly reverse the channels, and recovered once the cable connection is corrected but it is scary.  Be more concerned with running consistency checks and patrol reads, replacing "failed" disks promptly, keeping the drives and adapter cool,  making sure your cables are properly seated and your power to the server is clean and surge protected.
