Dell PowerEdge 1950 server running Windows 2000 Advanced Server will not start the safe mode using the function key F8.

Web server had been online running fine, and then stopped serving up the website. Did a restart (several actually) could not login anymore and received this message “At least one service or driver failed during system start up”.

Tried restarting in Safe Mode by pressing and releasing the F8 key and nothing it just blew by it and went onto load. Once the Ctrl, Alt, Delete login came up my keypad and mouse would not work, they were frozen. Tried CDRom with Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD, nothing.  Any suggestions on how to alternately get into Safe Mode is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your response as it turned out I had a keypad that went bad, once switched out I was able to access the Safe Mode.

Safe Mode is a matter of timing ... as soon as the 5 seconds are up after the CTRL-E prompt, start hitting F8 quickly and repeatedly.
