Sorry about that.  That Tab will get you in trouble everytime.

I need to install a different video card other than the built in one on my Poweredge 2650.  The error that I receive is that I need to disable my Remote Access Controller Card.  How can I do that?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Eric

I've been trying to add a video card to my 2650 as well. Disabling the remote access controller (ctrl-d for setup after post and SCSI bios) made no difference. Dell's answer is "High-end graphics cards are not supported on the 2650." Someone in another thread said that they had gotten an ATI Radeon 7500 PCI to work. I'm going to go try one of those now -- will let you know if I'm successful.

Thpppt. The Radeon 7500 didn't work -- slightly different error, followed by the same "RAC doesn't work with add-in video card" message.

Turns out the application we're using can just eke by using the on-board 8MB. Still, I'm totally astounded by this bug-feature-whatever. So was our Dell sales rep, actually. I've never seen this before -- in this day and age, you'd think that it would be possible to keep _video card support_ in any mobo architecture you felt like. Heck, I'd bet that you'd have to go back and do extra work to eliminate it.

I've noticed that no Dell reps have responded to this thread or any of the other three in the forums that I've found on this topic. I wonder, can it be that hard to design a server with video card support -- I mean, not very many people will use it, but then that's the whole point of having expansion cards in the first place, so you can customize your computer using a base machine that's as compatible as possible. There's sure more than a few features on every server that only a few people use -- can't one be video card support? Dell?

Hi,

I've the same problem. I want to make a Matrox 450 MMS PCI graphics controller (for up to 4 LCD monitors) running. Without any success. Only for this simple I thing I would have to spend another 2000 bucks for a separate workstation? CANNOT BE TRUE!!!

It's quite unusual that NO Dell guy responds to that questions. We just want to switch of the embedded remote access controller. Shouldn't be too complicated. I would even take out a chip if there would be a way to do it.

Dell gurus WANTED!!!

Come on, don't be so shy... ;o)
