Lost NT admin password

Question

I have lost the NT admin password for my NT server. Is there a way I can reset the password with out having to reinstall the operating system. Also, if I do reinstall NT will it erase the data that previously exsisted on the machine or cause any other kind of error. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Couple of ways to get around this. Log on to the server using a cached acct. that had admin rights and then reset the admin password. You can also get a copy of ERD Commander Pro and use the Locksmith utility to reset the admin password.. Both can be done witout any data loss or re-installations.

I've gone through this with NT 4 server and was surprised at how easy it was to find and use (successfully) Linux-based floppy disk solutions by just looking on Google (NT password lost hack). I think the one I used was out of western Europe somewhere. The process isn't quite automated nor is there a GUI, but if you know a fair amount about your server's OS, you should be able to work its magic.
