Memory Compatibility
In general, trying to find out what memory is compatible for Dell and HP Servers. Are the below servers using compatible memory? Meaning could I swap the same sticks out from one system to the next and work on all the below?
Dell - R410, R510, R610, R710,
HP - DL360 G6, DL380 G6, DL360 G7, DL380 G7
Also are there only specific P/Ns that will work… or if it fits the description… DDR3 1333 ECC Reg… even if a no name brand… then will it work accordingly?

Typically, memory from servers of the same generation (R410, R510, R610, R710) will take the same memory ... there are a few exceptions and each server has its own rules for population (speed, layout, type, etc.), so be aware of restrictions and limitations of each model. These rules are well documented in the User and Technical Guides for each model.
A few examples:
Can't answer about the HP's without looking up their specs.

While Dell memory does have Dell part numbers, it is not at all proprietary ... generic/retail memory that meets the required specs will work.

Appreciate the quick feedback.
"Rank can affect how many and speed of DIMMs"
Can you please explain further? For instance, an R610 with 12 DIMM slots......if you had dual ranked DIMMS, could you not populate all 12 slots???
Thanks.

In an R610 (and R510 and R410), the amount of memory/number of DIMMs doesn't change, BUT the maximum speed at which the memory will operate with 4R memory, regardless of physical specifications is 1067 if only one is installed per channel (800 with two per channel), and if mixed with 1R/2R, the 4R must go in the white slots.
Another example is in an R710, it will take three DIMMs per channel, EXCEPT if 4R DIMMs are used, then only TWO DIMMs per channel may be used, and speed is restricted to 800MHz, per Intel memory controller limitations, like with the other models. (The other server models would have these same restrictions, but they only have two slots per channel - the R710 and higher are the only 11G models that have 3 slots per channel.)
