PCI Device [Unknown]

I have a 2650 which has Windows Small Business Server Standard / Server 2003 running on it and I see that there are some little yellow question marks indicating "PCI Device [Unknown]". It seems they are RAID devices, but from what I can see, the two RAID controllers in the machine are alrady recognised and loaded elswhere, and I have tried loading the latest backplane drivers, and no luck there. Can anybody give me some advice how to troubleshoot these little boogers? Terence.

Download and install Dell OpenManage Server Administrator.  This contains the drivers that you need.

Thanks, I'll give it a try and see what transpires.  Terence.

Well I have installed it and run it but the tests don't seem to indicate any problem, but those little yellow [unknow PCI device] question marks are still there. Am I missing something?

I used the latest SUU today which updated the RAID driver, the backplane and both the gigabit lan ports, but those little yellow question-marks are still there... aaaaargghhh!

Hi,

I have exactly the same issue with several PE2650 running windows 2003 sp1 (manual setup). I compared the device list with another 2650 intstalled from dell baseline and found 3 Drac devices that don't appear on the other servers. So I guess we have to find the Drac card drivers for w2k03.
I'm still seraching...
Michael.

Hi Michael. Well that assumes that the DRAC devices are installed and causing the problem. And you may well be right. Dunno. This is my first time working with Dell rack kit and a PE2650 loaded with Win2K3/SBS, so I am not sure if I have the DRAC devices or not. I do know that getting SBS onto the machine was a real struggle due to hasstles with the CD drives not being able to read the CDs. For some reason, DELL do not support (or at least have not released) SBS on any rack servers. Apparently all SMEs are eiher not able to afford or are cerebrally challenged when it comes to running PCs horizontally. In the end I copied all the install and update CDs onto a USB HDD and loaded it from there. Have to go check out these DRAC critters (thinks... I wonder what they look like?). More later, no doubt... Thanks for the feed-back and the new direction to research. Terence.

The OpenManage install should fix this.  Try it again.  Choose custom.  Make SURE that the DRAC services are selected to be loaded.

The PE2650 has an ERA (Embedded Remote Access controller).  This means that you have the DRAC - it can not be removed...

OpenManage install? I am not sure what you mean. As far as I was aware there is no OpenManage install for Small Business Server. But that may be my inexperience. Terence.

Dell OpenManage Deployment Toolkit
Dell OpenManage Management Station
Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node
Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Updates

Any idea which one I should be using?

Terence.

OpenManage will install on SBS with no issues.  SBS is still Server 2003...

Hello,

I finaly found a sollution without installing Open manage :

go to http://support.dell.com and select download drivers for PE2650 for windows 2003

- select "Systems management"
- select "Dell Remote Access Controller - ERA and DRAC III/XT"

- download and apply the file RAC_FRMW_WIN_R113524.EXE

(one of the tree yellow warning will disappear and will be renamed RAC virtual UART port)

- search the file w2k3_rac.exe in your "Dell Open Manage Server Assistant CD version 8.4" CD.

run this file tio extract the drivers and apply this new drivers to the two PCI unknow devices (they will be renamed like PCI function 0 and PCI function 2.

All my 2650 are now OK.
regards,
Michael

Wow... a solution Michael. Fantastic. Only problem is I don't have "Dell Open Manage Server Assistant CD version 8.4" and so far, I haven't been able to find it on the download site. Do you know where I can get an ISO? Terence.

Apparently, Dell OpenManage Server Assistant Ver 8.4 CD is a "purchase-only" or "with-purchase" (machine) item, so I have duly purchased the kit and as soon as it arrives, will report back. Terence.

I know its been forever since posted but just in case someone else out there is still wondering...

This (Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node) solved my issue.  Had two pci devices in unknown devices of which the hardware id's were telling me (when googled) it was the drac III .  After installing all drivers were found.  You'd think that just "DRAC III Drivers" would suffice, and then a different link to "DRAC III Application" under it.  Simplicity Dell, more of it... come on.
