PE6300 Win Sock Error?

Hi there,

I am running a PowerEdge 6300 .

Whenever I try to install a printer (for print sharing) I get the error:

"Component 'MSWINSCK.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

Does anyone have any idea how I can repair this?

PS. The printer is a QMS-Minolta 2350
PPS. The install process finishes (as far as the installer is concerned, successfully) but the printer simply doesn't appear in the Printers and Faxes window...

Is it 2003 compatible?

It has XP and 2000 drivers on it; so, technically, no.

However, it used to be installed, shared and fully working on SBS 2003!

It's almost like MS Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition doesn't support WinSock? I've regsrv32-ed a downloaded mswinsck.ocx file and that has cured that error message; now it is moaning about mscomctl.ocx (I'm doing all this inside Virtual PC 2004 -- so I don't damage the server)!

Is there an install package for all this stuff?

That's alright (this is always the way, isn't it) I've finally fixed it (after 3 months of trying)!

1. Download XP/2000 drivers from Minolta and extract them somewhere
2. Add server role > Print server
3. Add LOCAL printer (don't auto-detect)
4. Create a New Port > Standard TCP/IP
5. Enter Printer name / IP address
6. Have disk > browse to extracted drivers (from step 1)
7. Choose correct printer
-- sorted!

I had a few other complications, but this is the method on a fresh machine :)

I was trying to get it to install from the installation CD!

PS. Am I right in thinking that practically all XP drivers will work in Server 2003 (as it is basically WinXP anyway)?

Cool,

Just got to get the HP 7140xi to install, design 3 corporate identities & associated websites and complete Half-Life 2 then I can relax again!

Basically, yes.  I've seen very few that would work, however, printers seem to be the pickiest of all.
