Good morning.

You have a few options you can try:

1. Research with Google for tools to help you reset the password.

2. Do a parallel installation to recover your data and then reinstall the OS on clean drives.

3. The recommended method would be to boot the server with an OMSA LIVE!  bootable CD, which can be downloaded from here: linux.dell.com/.../OMSA64-CentOS55-x86_64-LiveCD.iso

Once its created, you can boot the server with the CD, mount an external drive and recover your data. Once its recovered, then you can reload the server and restore your data.

You can do a parallel installation on a separate array, usually a single drive RAID 0.    If you do an OS install on C: it will require the  RAID controller drivers or the drives won't seen to install the OS, repair or otherwise.  Doing the repair installation may not reset your admin password and may leave you at the same place that you are.

If you have any data on C:\, you will need to recover using the parallel install or the OMSA LIVE! CD ISO  and then reinstall the OS and applications once you are finished.  Your options are fairly limited.

It's against the board rules to discuss methods to reset a password, but what you're asking should be ok to discuss.

You can install Windows over the existing copy (w/o a format), but you'll have to reinstall all applications again (though you can back up your relevant data this way).

The OS installation CD doesn't have the RAID controller drivers, so it doesn't see the hard drives.  Using the Server Installation CD will load the drivers, and you can reload the OS at that point. This will not affect the data on your D: partition.  Make sure when reloading its pointing to C: and not the D: partition.    You will need to reload any applications when you are finished, as Dev Mgr advised previously.

Sir,

Am using PowerEdge 2900, my main problem is i disjoint the system from domain and i cant remember my local Admin password and there is very important data on drive D:/ and the OS is on C:/. I try to repair the OS (server 2003) or re install so that i can get access to my Dbase folder, but the installation CD is not detecting the SCSI drive.

My question is: is it possible to download the Dell server management ISO CD and use it to reinstall my machine without formatting?. Please help.
