PowerEdge t420 can't detect new HDD

I have a T420 that we stopped using due to the disks getting faulty. Recently we acquired a seagate Constellation SAS HDD, but when we plug it into the sockets for the disks, the BIOS doesn't detect it, and we cannot use it to make a new installation of windows. The server used to have a RAID setup of two HDDs, and I'm trying to set up the new disk in the slot that used to belong to one of the disks.

Hi could you attach a screenshot or two of Physical Disk status on OMSA/BIOS?

All but one of the devices connected appear the same, save for one that is the optical drive unit. I don't know if the information requested should be somewhere else.20221116_104826701_iOS.jpg

Hello,

where the hard drives are connected ? There is a RAID controller?

If so you have to see in the PERC BIOS to check .

Thanks

Marco,

The disk is connected to a RAID controller. How do I access the PERC BIOS?

You have to press CTRL R after the POST and before the OS boot

This is the result I get from this screen. I know it says "not supported", but if that were to be the case, there wouldn't be update packages for this exact HDD in the DELL support site.20221117_153546074_iOS.jpg

Thanks in advance for all the help so far.

Is the new drive from Dell? We seen such behavior when non Dell disks are used. Can you also check the LED status on the drive. You can check below link for details on drive LED status.

Hi, I agree with Shine for suspecting a non Dell disk. Can you send us a screenshot of how the disk is detected in RAID BIOS?

Hello,

I previously attached a picture of how the status of the physical disk is displayed on the RAID BIOS. As for the LEDs, they are both on, green and not blinking.
