It sounds like you need to use the F6 option to load additional drivers.  You will need the driver for the array controller in your server.  What type of server do you have and what array controller?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for replying.

It's a PowerEdge 1800 using 2x 160Gb SATA disks

Thanks Mark, you're a star.  But 2 last questions.

1 - The Server has no floppy drive, will a USB Memorystick do the job? or how about loading it onto the hard disk to start with?

2 - When I reboot from the CD it works fine until the point where it says it can't find a hard disk, then the only option is to use F3 to quit.

3 - I lied about the number of questions ;0) - When you mention "F6" is that at at some point earlier in the boot process? (I'm fairly adept with PC's and application software, but Servers is something I've previously had someone else to ask).

Thanks for all your time,

Regards,

Gary

Array controller?  Can you give me the service tag?

OK, it sounds like this is the driver that you need.  Simply download it and then extract it to a blank floppy disk.  Boot the server to the 2003 CD and hit F6 when prompted.  Use this driver floppy to load the additional driver.

1) No - it must be a floppy drive.  A USB attached floppy will work.  The other solution would be to use something like NLite to integrate the drivers into your existing OS CD.  It will allow you to make a new ISO that has the drivers built in.

2) This is because the OS does not have a driver for your chipset.

3) Watch closely when you boot to the OS CD.  Fairly early in the boot process the text "Press F6 to load additional drivers" will appear at the bottom left corner of the screen.  Hit F6 several times when you see this (I just mash on F6 like 10 times).  NOTE: it is not immediate - the additional driver screen will come up later.
