System Idle Process - CPU Time increases by 2sec
Hello,
I am running a PE1600SC with Windows 2K Server on it. I've noticed that when I look at the Windows Task Manager, the System Idle Process shows that the CPU Time is increasing at double it's normal rate. That is, it increases by 2 seconds, for every 1 second of actual time. So if my server's been running for 30 minutes, it will show that the System Idle Process has been running for an hour.
I've tried re-installing Windows 2K Server several times, but I have not had any luck. This is more of an annoyance than an actual problem. However, I am wondering if this could be a hardware related issue, as opposed to a Windows issue.
Any thoughts? Thanks!
Dan

Dan,
Your server either has 2 physical processors or 1 physical processor with Hyperthreading enabled. Either way, Windows sees 2 processors, so every 1 second of real time means 2 seconds of processor time. If you had 4 processors it would count 4 seconds of idle time per real second.
Don't reload the OS again, it won't help! ;)

RackSpatters,
You are correct - 1 processor with Hyperthreading. So I guess this is normal behavior then! Good to know... thanks for your help!
