Time keeps slowing down...

I have a server that is a few years old.  The windows time keeps getting off synch.  The server is not on the network so it cannot use a time server.  It seems to slow about 10 minutes a month, I have to go back to the customer and change it again.

Any help is appreciated.

Aaron

Surely the software pcmeiners recommends needs a network connection to contact a time server.

10 minutes a month isn't a horrendous drift for the relatively simple clocks on computer motherboards, but it's enough to throw things out badly if you care about accurate time.

If a network connection - even one firewalled just to allow NTP - is impossible, I'd go for another time source. You can get both GPS and radio clocks that hook up to a computer. If you have a clear view of the sky within a few metres of the computer, GPS is the best way to go, otherwise it will have to be radio (depending where you are in the world, I'm meaning something like WWV, MSF or DCF).

You can pay a lot for these clocks, but there are inexpensive solutions out there, especially if you're willing to use the ntp reference distribution. That's easier on *NIX than Windows, but I believe it can be used on Windows.
