How do I add the mass storage drivers to windows 2003 so it can detect a perc 4/di contoler when using RIS.  I have a 1750 and it say it can not find any hard drives when setup run from RIS.  It is onlt the new 4/di controler it can detect all the others are fine.  HELP!

1. Open the Sysprep.inf file and add the following heading at the end of the file: [SysprepMassStorage]

2. Save the Sysprep.inf file.

3. Select Start > Run, and then run the following command: c:\sysprep\sysprep -bmsd. This automatically populates the [SysprepMassStorage] section of the Sysprep.inf file with driver information for all controllers 2k3 ships with.

4. Run Sysprep with the desired switches.

Thanks, but I need the proper TEXTMODE setup for RIS using txtsetup.oem

Hi,

I am having the same issue. Have you come up with a solution to this as yet?

Bye, Kev.

Hi,

We have also hit this same problem today when trying to image PE1750 servers with a Windows 2003 flat image.

As far as I am aware we have the correct drivers in the i386 directory for the image (mraid35x.sys). We have also tried creating  $oem$\$1\Drivers\Raid and putting the drivers in this, and editing the sif setup files appropriately. Got this method to work for Network cards (with some extra tweaks because they are broadcom cards), but no success with Raid drivers.

Any ideas or help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Has there been any update on this?  I've got the same issue on a PE2850.  I've got the network card recognized, now, by RIS, but I cannot get RIS to see the RAID controller for anything.  I've followed Microsoft's KB articles step-by-step, word-for-word on how to add OEM PnP devices, but it refuses to go on the textmode setup - still says it cannot find a hard drive to set the system up.  I know the RAID controller and drives are functional, as I've booted the system with the Dell CD just to verify functionality.

Any updates or ideas??

Thank you,

Mike

IIRC you need to either remove or rename the EXISTING windows supplied drivers from both \i386 and the $OEM$\$1\Drivers\NIC locations so that the RIS installation uses the Dell supplied PERC drivers.

This is because Windows will still PnP the drivers and even if it see's more than one driver file that matches the PnP ID of the device, it will still use the file within i386 in deference to any other if the dates/times on both differ.

I had this when doing a manual install of the 4e/Si drivers on a PE1850 and even with the correct files it still tries to default to the Windows supplied files. When unattended this is also true I believe.

Hope this helps as I have the reverse issue, I can get the PERC 4e/Si 1850 drivers to load but have issues with the Broadcom drivers causing STOP errors mid-install.

I am having an issue getting RIS to work with the PERC 4e/Si on the PE1850.  The following works PE2600, PE1750 & PE2850 with the following Structure

\base image\i386\$oem$\textmode

\base image\$oem$\$1\drviers\nic

\base image\$oem$\$1\drviers\raid

\base image\$oem$\$$\oemdir

\base image\$oem$\texmode

If anyone has any clues on RIS with the PE1850, please let me know...

Thanx,

Tried all those myself and though they 'seem' to load up it all goes horribly wrong after the text mode portion of setup.  I get a BSOD STOP 0x000000BB error.  I haven't been able to work around this as yet and have since given up and done all my 1850's manually from the Server Assistant CD's.

Of course this implies that you can at least script an unattended install since that's what the Dell CD is doing, just not via RIS, so you have no requirement for textmode NIC drivers.

Here's a sample from the unattend.txt file that the CD uses:

[Unattended]
NtUpgrade=no
OverwriteOemFilesOnUpgrade=no
FileSystem=ConvertNTFS
OemPreinstall=yes
ConfirmHardware=yes
;ComputerType="Dell PowerEdge Server","OEM"
ExtendOemPartition=1
OemFilesPath="c:\dell\$oem$"
OemPnPDriversPath="Dell\PnP\cs\il;Dell\PnP\v\atir;Dell\PnP\m\co;Dell\PnP\Storage;Dell\PnP\Storage\Mraid35x;Dell\PnP\N\Intel;Dell\PnP\N\BC;Dell\PnP\Mgmt"
TargetPath=\windows
OemSkipEula=yes

[MassStorageDrivers]
"DELL PERC 2/3/4 RAID Controller Driver"=OEM

[OEMBootFiles]
txtsetup.oem
mraid35x.sys
Oemsetup.inf
nodev.inf
percraid.cat

You also need to have a txtsetup.oem file with the following:

[Disks]
LSId1 = "DELL PERC 2/3/4 RAID Controller Driver", \mraid35x.sys, \

[Defaults]
scsi = DELLPERC

[Computer]

[scsi]
DELLPERC = "DELL PERC 2/3/4 RAID Controller Driver", mraid35x.sys

[Files.scsi.DELLPERC]
driver = LSId1, mraid35x.sys, mraid35x
inf = LSId1, oemsetup.inf, mraid35x
inf = LSId1, nodev.inf
catalog = LSId1, percraid.cat

I haven't looked at the folders that this uses as yet due to work considerations here so if someone else could clarify whats here we may be able to resolve this.

I am also unable to complete a RIS installation on a PowerEdge 2850.  After a week of testing and trying out new drivers, I was finally able to get the Intel Pro 1000 network cards to work.  Now, setup is unable to find any hard disks, and it is forced to quit.  I have a Perc 4e/di raid controller, and I have followed the steps in the article below:

http://wug.lutteman.se/articles/ris-add-storage.htm#DELL_PERC_4/Di_RAID_On_Motherboard_Driver_using_TXTSETUP.SIF_

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Arshad

I finally got the answer!  I found it at http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t27005.html, but I'll post it here as well.

1) Download the driver file from support.dell.com
2) Expand this file to a directory on your hard drive, ie: c:\temp
3) Download makecab.exe from Microsoft.
4) Using makecab.exe compress mraid35x.sys to mraid35x.sy_
5) Copy mraid35x.sy_ to your i386 source directory replacing the existing file if present.
6) Open the TXTSETUP.SIF file in your i386 directory with Notepad.
7) Add the following entries to their respective sections.
[SourceDisksFiles]
mraid35x.sys = 1,,,,,,4_,4,0,,,1,4

[HardwareIdsDatabase]
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_11121111 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_11111111 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_09A0101E = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_11111028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_04671028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_101E&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_04711028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_101E&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_04931028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_101E&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_04751028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_000E&SUBSYS_01231028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_000F&SUBSYS_013B1028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_000F&SUBSYS_014A1028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_000F&SUBSYS_014C1028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_000F&SUBSYS_014D1028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_101E&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_05111028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_05181028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_05201028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_0013&SUBSYS_016C1028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_0013&SUBSYS_016D1028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_0013&SUBSYS_016E1028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_0013&SUBSYS_016F1028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1028&DEV_0013&SUBSYS_01701028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0408&SUBSYS_00011028 = "mraid35x"
PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0408&SUBSYS_00021028 = "mraid35x"

*** Entries taken from OEMSETUP.INF file downloaded with driver file from Dell***

[SCSI.Load]
mraid35x = mraid35x.sys,4

[SCSI]
mraid35x = "DELL PERC 4/Di RAID Controller"
8) Save the changes to the TXTSETUP.SIF file and create your ISO using your favorite utility.
9) Burn your ISO to CD-ROM and your ready to go.

PS: Repeat the above steps substituting the file mraid2k.sys for a Windows 2000 installation.
