Do you have the current patches installed in addition to SP4?  I don't know if Windows Update still works on 2000 but you might try that.  I think there's also a Windows 2000 roll-up of security updates that you can apply.  Also, check the file size, version and date of msvcrt.dll.  Is it all correct or is it possibly corrupt.

Was anything installed between the time you installed Veritas and tried to run it?  Have you tried to re-install Veritas?  You might have to remove it, reboot, and then make sure it's really gone from the server.  When you re-install it, it should update any Windows components it needs with compatible versions.

Searching the web (I assume you did it too) didn't yield any information.

Also, please remove your service tag from the post.

Did you have a tape in the drive when you ran the test?  You might try it with another tape and see if it's a media error or drive problem.

If you've got Dell support, ring them up after you've tried the above and still have the error.  I'm not a tape expert.  The last tape drive I was really good with was a TU80.

Ran the Dell Diagnostic and generated these:

msg:Tape utility did not become ready
SCSI 1-006-Tape Retension Test          : FAIL
Status: FAIL    Status Code: DOS DDG-D SCSI 289839
Device: SCSI_1_006_Tape   Test: Tape_Retension_Test - Test_Unit_Ready

Release: 1019 module(s): SCSI
Sense: 0x70 0x00, etc.

All failes > Verification, Seek, Write, Read, etc.

Does this mean that the Tape drive needed to be replaced?

Any thoughts...

whenever I tried to install the latest version of Windows 10 it shows an error https://www.fixerrorcodes.net/blog/resolve-windows-defender-error-577/, so I want a proper solution on how to remove this error.
