yes, you need to install ODM. Search powerlink for document "EMC Host Connectivity Guide for IBM AIX"

As dynamox suggested you need the regular ODM sets for AIX.

Really from a SAN perspective there is nothing different you do for a VIO server that you would not do for a regular AIX host. The only consideration is making sure you have the correct patch levels/firmware in place to meet the microcode level on your storage array.

These steps may help...

1-stage EMC powerPath and ODM definition files in "padmin" home (EMCpower.dare_install, EMC.AIX.5.3.0.2_ODM)
2-create VIO backup (backupvios)
3-document all hdisks, hdiskpower, and Virtual Target Devices(lspv, /usr/ios/cli/ioscli lsmap -all)
4-create clone of aixvio01 profile with NO fiber HBA's (done so that disks will not be "connected at startup")
5-power off aixvio01 profile
6-client lpars will now have disk and network only from aixvio02 - one path active one path failed
7-Activate new vio01_no_hba profile
8-Stop Navisphere (Navi_agent) on aixvio01
9- remove all Virtual target Devices to client lpars (rmvdev)
10-remove all "hdiskpower" devices (rmdev hdiskpower3)
11-remove all corresponding hdisks (rmdev hdisk2 - hdisk233)
12-update PowerPath from ver. 5.1 to 5.3 (installp on EMCpower.dare_install, EMC.AIX.5.3.0.2_ODM)
13- remove definitions of the fiber adapters (rmdev ¿dl hba# -R)
14-reboot vio01_no_hba lpar profile
15-check version of EMC PowerPath (lslpp -L|grep -i emc)
16-power off vio01_no_hba profile
17-activate standard aixvio01 profile
18-233 hdisks should be present and 57 hdiskpower EMC disks should be in place
19-ensure that scsi reserve is set to "no" (chdev -l $HSK -a reserve_lock=no) (reserve_lock no Reserve device on open)
20-ensure that hdiskpower devices have PVIDs (chdev -l $HSK -a pv=yes)
21-double check that PVIDs of hdiskpower devices are the same as before
22-remap Virtual target Devices to client lpars (mkvdev -vdev hdiskpower7 -vadapter vhost6 -dev oratst01hd0)
23-client lpars will now have disk and failover network from both aixvio01 and aixvio02 - (Enabled hdisk7 vscsi0 Enabled hdisk7 vscsi1)

no each one assigned to diffrent CPUs

OK.  It would be the same scenario.  If the CPUs are shared by each of the LPARs or the CPUs are dedicated to specific LPARs, you would still license PP for those CPUs.  I hope this helps.

Hi.  PowerPath is licensed by CPU not by LPAR.  Are all the system's LPARs using all available CPUs?

Thanks, Brion
