132T SDLT W2k3
I have a 132t sdlt library with two tape drives, when the server boots up the SCSI card recgonizes the library (SCSI ID 0) and the two drives (SCSI ID 1 and 2). When I go into device manager it only lists one tape drive (SCSI ID 2). I checked all the cables and terminators and can't windows recgonize both drives.
I've tried only connecting first drive on the SCSI chain, and windows recgonzies the drive correctly (SCSI ID 1). I then connected only the 2nd drive and windows recgonizes it correctly (SCSI ID 2) but when I have them both connected windows only shows one in device manager. Partation is disabled.
Any Ideas out there?
Thanks

Which SCSI controller are you using?
Suggestions:
1. If it is a 39160, are you using both channels (i.e. robot + drive 1=channel A, and/or drive 2 = channelB)? Try splitting the drive on separate channels. That is, Channel A connects to drive 1, and terminate drive 1. Channel B connects to drive 2, than terminate drive 2.
2. In the OS device manager, is there always a 132T robot entry in the "Medium Changer" section?
3. In the OS device manager, is one of the drives listed under "OTHER" devices.
4. Right click in the device manager section, and select "scan for devices" and see if the device reappears.

right now the SCSI controller is a Startech UW card
Yes the library appears under the medium changer section
The only thing in the other section is a SM Bus controller
Have tried the rescan in the device manager with no luck, also has tried adding new hardware wizard

Additional suggestions:
1. Check ALL SCSI cable ends for any bent PINs, including the SCSI cable that chains each drive. Although POST sees the devices, smashed PINs are known for causing lost devices in the OS.
2. When you chain the drives, make sure that the SCSI adapter connects to drive 1, drive 1 chains to drive 2, and drive two is terminated. This is proper the connection for this type of autoloader. (the robot interface is connected internally via drive 1).
