Couple of items to check.

1.  Check the W2K3 device manager and see if the Backup Exec driver is loaded.  If not, run the Backup Exec device driver installer from the Backup Exec GUI.
2.  Trying temporarily turning off the Removable storage service.  (last resort)
3.  Any chance that the cartridge may be damaged?  Have you tried another cartridge?
4.  Does Backup Exec properly list the device in the Backup Exec device viewer?

HI Richard,
THanks for the post. In my BE 10d, under device it shows Archive1 under Stand Alone Drive. I have loaded the BE driver. In Device Manager under w2k03, it shows Archive Python under Tape Device.

Still when I insert a brand new tape, it just keeps ejecting out...

The setup is that it is connected on the same cable as scsi cd-rom. If I look at the back of the tape device, above the scsci connector the dip switch is as follows going from left to right. On/No dip switch/Off/No dip switch/No dip switch/On/On/Off.

During POST: SCSI CD-ROM is 5 and Archive Python SCSI ID is 6

Thanks for your help.
Jamison

Is this a DDS3 or DDS4 drive? What new media have you purchased?... any chance you purchased DDS4 media for a DDS3 drive?

Does it behave in the same manner when you insert tapes that you have previously used or is it only with the new tapes?

Can you describe any LED's that are flashing or on at the time the tape is being ejected?

Have you tried to run a cleaning cartridge through the drive?

Have you tried to halt the server POST and insert the tape or are you always adding the tape while the OS is initialized?   To halt the POST simply hit the pause button during POST. this will let you test the drive without any drivers controlling the device. To release the pause hit the Enter key.
