Available Path issue

Hi Everyone,

We are setting upi our Md3400 SAS with the goal of using Vmotion in Vcenter 6.0 and I am having a couple of issues.

When i go into Vcenter to check the availbale storage I can see that each host can view the new Lun created.

Whe i check the paths I see only 1 active path showing for one esxi host and the other host shows 2 active paths. Can you tell me what this could be as i though tthere should be an activee/standby in each path

When i check the modular sisk storage manager and under the md3400 raid controller module properties host interfaces I see 3 up and 3 down, not sure if this causes the issue.

Thank you

Hello danielequit,

Are these 3 host going to be in a cluster or no? Also in MDSM did you add all 3 host to the same host group or no? Since you are wanting the host to all have access to the same virtual disk then they all need to be in the same host group. Here is the link to the Admin Guide and it explains a little more about host groups on page 66. http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/powervault-md3400_Administrator%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam,

Actually getting back to this reoccurring issue.

Update.

We have 2 Raid Controllers on our Storage Array.

We  have 2, 6.0 ESXi hosts connected to the Dell MD3400 Storage Array via SAS cables and cards. When checking The SAS cards on the Vsphere hosts 1 host correctly shows 2 Active connections and 1 host only shows 1 Active Connection.

The cabling looks correct. On the MDSM software each host has 2 port identifiers assigned , but I do see there is a 5th identifier not assigned.

Other notes, Host interfaces shows channel 4 down.

Also on the host mappings the host that does not have both Active ports available does not have the default Access 31 group and the second host that is working correctly does, i am not sure if it was removed and has to be in mapping for that host too?

The host group that contains both hosts does have the Access 31 Group

Thank you
