Backup Exec Backup to Disk - 745N

I am needing to verify before purchase that the 745N is compatible with Backup Exec 10d for the backup to disk option. Veritas technical support tells me that NAS would have to have Windows Storage Server 2003 SP1. One of the postings on this forum is showing that Dell supports only updates for security patches and bug fixes for the OS on the 745N.

Has anyone successfully applied SP1 to Storage Server 2003? Or is anyone using the 745N without SP1 on the OS as a backup to disk device with Backup Exec?

Our server OS is Windows SBS 2003.

The only OS supported on a PV745 is Storage Server 2003.

Service packs and security updates are supported and fully reccomended by Dell.

Also, BUE 10 will run fine.

This is the second time I've read this in these forums.  This is not a true fact.  We have 2 PowerVault 745n's, and they both came with Server2003 Appliance Edition.  There is nothing in my server that says Storage Server 2003.

The 745 runs windows 2003 standard edition with bits stripped out and the SAK 3.0 (nas bits) are installed on top Which makes it an appliance edition.

This flavour or NAS is pre storage server, microsoft discontinued SAK 3.0 and released storage server.

The main part about the SAK is it's OEM and allows vendors to design their own web interfaces, which is why when you log into your nas for admin it had Dell and PV745 plastered everywhere

Server 2003 Appliance Edition = Storage Server 2003.  It's the same thing.

The "Storage Server 2003" name is used to make things seem more linear in the "Server 2003" name world.

I guess this is a good link for OS info.  Good ol Wikipedia.  ;)  haha.

Oh yeah...and I guess the obvious....check out the user guide for the 745.  Shows you it's Storage Server 2003.

Oh, I don't know little nuances like that.  Just never read that.  I apologize.
