Hi Nick,

You need to smack BackupExec

The "Eject Prevent" message is an indication the SW has locked the magazine. This is a security measure to prevent a scheduled backup from failing, because of a "missing" magazine.

Open Backup Exec go to the "Devices" tab. Under the "Server Name" - Changers right click the name of the Tape Backup Device. Pick "Unlock" from the context menu. An unlock job will pop up in Job Monitor. After it's done, hit the eject button on the Tape Backup Device

Note: The specific names in the above solution may change from version to version of BackupExec, but the principal is the same.

Thanks for the info - I've replied below with fuller details - seems sensible to keep the same error in the same thread; that way me and t'other fella get the benefit of your wisdom in one place

I'm having the same issue.  I tried the same solution, it kicked off the unlock job and completed successfully.  When I try to eject the magazine from the drive, I still get the Eject prevent message.  Anything else I can look for or try?

I was able to get around this error message by stopping the "Backup Exec Device & Media Service"  I am running a Dell PowerEdge with Windows 2000 Server and Backup Exec 9.1.

Click Start> Run

type "services.msc"

Find "Backup Exec Device & Media Service"  right click and Stop, it will pop-up a message telling about 2 dependency services, just say ok.   You are now able to eject your magazine.  All you have to do is start your "Backup Exec Device & Media Service" and  your good.
