H800 Raid card failure
Hello, I am hoping to recover my data, and didn't want to touch anything until I checked here to see if anyone could help. I have a R610 w/ a PERC H800 connected to a couple of MD1000's. The raid card has failed. I have a 2nd R610 w/ another PERC H800 in it, just sitting idle in storage. -Is it possible to recover the data? -Could I just swap the raid cards and recover it that way? Or will the raid configuration be messed up? Thanks much.

Hello smallbizguy10,
So the Raid configuration is stored on the Raid card & on the drives in the MD1000. So you can replace the dead PERC H800 with the Working one. I would erase any raid configuration on the good PERC H800 first if there is any before I would put it in the server with the dead Perc H800 so that it won’t pull any configuration except what is on the drives. When you go into the controller bios & if it lists all the drives as foreign configuration then you will need to import the configuration & once the drives are all online & ready then let the server boot & check & you should have access to your data. Now the only data loss that you should have is any data that was being written when the card stopped working.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
