Hard Write Error=1

Hi!

Backup Exec is showing Hard Write Error for every tape even after long erasing the tapes. The backup stops with the error

Storage device "Tape drive 0001" reported an error on a request to write data to media.

Error reported:

A device attached to the system is not functioning.

V-79-57344-34036 - An unknown error has occurred.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks.

Hello create_share,

Are you getting any error on the PV124T or just in backup exec?  if you are getting errors what is the error code that you are getting.  Here is a link to the diagnostic that you can run on the tape drive to ensure that the drive is functioning correctly. http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/Product/powervault-100t-dat72?driverId=HGG0F&osCode=WNET&fileId=3011761913

The diag that you will need to run is ITDT.  You will also need to stop backup exec services so that ITDT can see the drive otherwise it will not detect it.  In ITDT you can run a device health check on the drive and the test takes about 15 minutes to complete and you will need a scratch tape loaded into the drive to do the test.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Can't ITDT work with Windows 2008 R2 64bit? It asked for JAVA 32bit which i have already installed but it is still asking for java path.

Hello create_share,

Try installing the x64 java as sometimes it looks for both before wanting to start.  Once that is done make sure that you run ITDT as Administrator.
