Help upgrading Perc 6/i controller card

We have a Powervault NF600 and it came with a Perc 6/i controller card. It is not capable of hard drives over 2TB. We would like to install 4TB HDs. I noticed that the 6/i card comes with different connectors than current RAID cards. Which upgraded card would work in my system and allow 4TB drives?

Hello BLKDRGN,

For the PERC 6/i controller the next controller that would be used is an PERC H700.  The issue is that on the H700 the connectors are different than on a PERC 6/I, as the PERC 6/I use 3gb connectors and the H700 use 6gb connectors.  Your storage enclosure for your NF600 also only uses 3gb connections so you will not be able to upgrade to the H700 as well due to needing different cables.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

So are there any 3gb connection cards that will work on this server? It doesn't matter what brand.

There is another potential issue. I ran into a Dell Powervault Backup Appliance (don't remember the exact model) a while ago where we wanted to add an MD1200 via a PERC H800. Once we added the H800, the backup software that was factory installed refused to work anymore till we removed the H800. This seems to be due to the software being licensed for a restricted list of hardware.

However, if you installed your own backup software, or this is purely for shares, this may not affect you.
