MD1200 initialization failure

Hi all,

I tried connecting my new MD1200 with poweredge R720 server, after installing the Open Manage software i couldnt see the MD1200 drives from the Server.

I haveconnected the SAS cable to the server and the Storage

Is that a firmware issue?
Currently the SAS HBA is PERC710 in Server.
RAID driver and SAS driver is installed in the Server.

Can someone tell me steps to connect and configure the MD1200 from the server R720 (Windows 2008 R2 )
Thanks in Advance.

Hey Paul,

Let me understand the situation.

Mentioned that the MD1200 is now connected to the R710, is it detected in R710 Open Manage?

RAID driver and SAS driver is installed in the server, which server is it? R710 or R720 or both?

When you install the SAS HBA onto R720, did you see any prompt of Ctrl-C in server POST? - Do you see any device detected in Windows Device Manager?

Here's some suggestion:

1) Installed the card, boot up the server and make sure the SAS HBA is detected in the R720

2) Install the latest Open Manage, 7.2

3) Shutdown the server and the MD

4) Connect the SAS cables on the SAS HBA

5) Turn on the MD, wait awhile, 1 minute.

6) Turn on the server, make sure SAS HBA is detected during POST

7) Check Open Manage.

Here's a MD document installation for reference: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md1200_Setup%20Guide_en-us.pdf
