MD3000i controller has failed, replacement instructions using pulled parts
I have an MD3000i that has one failed RAID controller. We are currently running on the other controller, but obviously want to replace the failed part. It's my understanding we will have to power off the SAN to install the replacement hardware as it's not hot swappable. Is that correct? Also, can we used a pulled Controller from another unit (same part) and it work or will we run into issues by using a used part? Any input or instructions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hello AllieP,
You do not need to power down the MD3000i to replace the controller. You can login to MDSM and go to the support tab & then Manage RAID Controller Modules you can place the effected controller in an offline status. Then you can go to the Summary Tab & confirm that the controller is offline. Once the controller is offline you can swap it with your replacement controller. Once the controller has been replaced and all cables reconnected then you go back to the support tab & online the controller. You can check in the summary tab & see that both controllers are online. Now if the new controller is at a different version of firmware then the MD 3000i should copy the correct firmware that is running on the other controller to the replacement controller so that they match. Once the firmware matches on both controllers then both controllers should be active.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi guys. Sorry ask what may be a stupid question but what if you have a dual controller MD3000i and both controllers fail owing to corrupt firmware?
Thanks

Hello jimmyford,
What I would do is to try & flash the firmware with the current version that the controllers are running & see if you are still getting the corruption message. If you are still getting the error then might have to look at replacing both controllers. Also when you flash the firmware make sure that all I/O has been stopped as well.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I have a controller in slot 1 that is not charging the battery. I purchased a used controller on eBay, but I wanted to be sure that inserting a previously configured controller will not cause issues with the existing controller in slot 0. Will this cause any problems?
