MD3000i Server 2012 connection issues

I have tried to connect to our MD3000i with server 2012 with and without the Dell software. Actually they connect but I can't see the disk in diskpart on one server, the SAN see's the 2012 box as unknown (machine name) but show the correct IP.

The other 2012 box conects and in diskpart the drive status is "error".

Is Dell going to support this configuration?

I have no issues with 2008R2 servers.

Thanks,

Scott

Dear ITperson123,

I will going to install Hyper-V to connect dell MD3200i. My hyper-v host will be windows server 2012 core. Is that still allow to install MDSS into the core version? to set the jumbo frames to what value? Why do not install MPIO prior? Is that related to performance issue? How was the storage performance? Have you use Benchmark to test? output how? Thanks a lot.

Can't speak to MDSS on core Server 2012.

Jumbo frame value would be consistent with the highest common value supported on the MD3200i, your network switches, and your host NICS.

Personally I have not gotten the MD3000i MPIO drivers to correctly install when the MS MPIO feature was enabled prior to MDSS install.

I did not benchmark our Server 2012 (Hyper-V fail-over cluster) against the MD3000i, however copies of 100GB+ VHD files was consistent with expected performance of 1 GB duplex links.

Hey ITPerson,

I saw that a new version of the resource cd is out ( 4.1.2.29, A01 ) and was wondering if you have tried it out on Server 2012 yet?  I'm having some issues with the SMProvider.exe crashing on my 2012 Hosts when I run Veeam backups.  Hoping this new version might fix it.

Thanks,

A

I have not tried it yet. Since I'm stable I probably won't for some time.

I just followed itperson123's solution with the DELL_MDSS_Consolidated_RDVD_4_1_2_29 disk and had to rerun "windows\mdsm\smia-einx54.exe" installer and select custom and then selected the DSM drivers only.

The initial install did not install the DSM drivers for some reason.  I did not have the MPIO feature installed.
