The very first thing I would start with would be to update the firmware up to the latest version on the MD3000i Controller Module. The ensure that all the updates are done on the ESXi hosts as well. Once all that is completed then go ahead and use the MDSM software to put VD's on the proper controller. Let me know if you have any further questions as I would be happy to assist.

Thanks Kenny, here's a follow-up question.  Some of my physical drives are Seagate 15k ST3146855SS, it states under firmware level S527, that multiple updates will be needed.  I'm currently at S52A, is that considered under S527 and requiring multiple flashes or can I go straight to S52C?

Thanks again, one more.  Is there a way to see what data is currently being consumed?  IE, how much free space do I have?  I checked under the support summary, but I only see what has been carved out for each disk group.

My MDSM is currently at 03.35.G6.45, is the latest version 03.35.36.58 an update?

If you are currently at S52A then yes you go directly to S52C without any issues. Let me know how everything goes.

I've looked under the Disk Group tab and see where it says, 'Associated virtual disks and free capacity.'  I don't see free capacity stated, I've also checked under the Virtual Disk tab.

Just to be clear, all my storage capacity has been carved into disk groups, the disk groups have all be carved into VD's.  Is it possible to see what space is unused?

If you are looking in MDSM go into the storage array profile and that will give you all of the information on the size and space of the VDs.

If all of your space has been assigned to a disk group and then to VD's then it will not show available space as that space has been assigned already.
