MD32 sodMain CtlrLockdown, Lockdown case-DB CORRUPT.

I'm trying to configure an MD3220i (dual controller) but having problems with both controllers.

First one is failing to boot very early, all LEDs remain lit and no output seen after "Adding 13888 symbols for standalone", I suspect this unit will need exchanging/repairing.

The other is starting to boot but hitting a controller lockdown state, after sending a BREAK and 'S' input is echoed back but there's no response to commands entered. Capture from the serial port is available at sprunge.us/gBJj

I have already disconnected batteries and left them to sit for 20 minutes before attempting to boot. Does anyone have other suggestions? Thanks.

Hello sthen,

Is this a new install of your MD3220i?  Also are you getting the same message on both controllers or just one & if one which controller are you getting the message on?

Looking at your serial capture the error that is being reported is a database error & that is why the controller is in a lockdown state.  Now for your particular lockdown message what is normally required is that you open a case with support so that we can clear the error & restore the database from the backup database to get the database fixed & clear the lockdown.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Sam, it's a new install of a previously used MD32. I opened a support case, in the end the tech did a sysWipe but then had problems getting it to see drives correctly (showing as UnavailableITN/NonPreferredITN on all disk devices in luall) and did an ssmSpinUp/dsmWipe for each disk then eventually a lemClearLockdown (followed up by checking things over, updating firmware, etc), and arranged an exchange unit for the second controller so the problem is now fixed (and I learned a bit about the serial port shell along the way).

An interesting point which I'll mention here for other readers finding this later as, like me, I've seen a couple of other posts from people who couldn't get any useful output (just echoed characters) after entering "S" at the "Press within 5 seconds: for Service Interface,..." prompt. This doesn't mean the controller is dead; there is a VxWorks shell which can be entered at this point, activated by pressing esc, but requiring a shellUsr login (password was not echoed back; I found it elsewhere but this shell is fairly low-level and as such I don't think anyone who can't find the password and other documentation themselves should be using it ;-)
