MD3200i - cannot bring up service menu with ctrl+break

hi, i need to change mgmt. IP address for a MD3200i i recently acquired but using the serial cable i cannot bring up service menu - after pressing ctrl+break it never goes to the password prompt.  

Any help is greatly appreciated.
