So based on the errors that you are getting there is most likely an issue with the drive. Once thing I would check is to make sure that there isn’t any media that is stuck in the drive or sitting in front of the drive. Also what you could do is to remove all media except 2 tapes. Once that is done then you are going to want to run a random moves test for 20 cycles. If the test fails & u get the same error then it is going to be an issue with your drive.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
When i open device console from a web browser i can see that all of the tapes are in there slots and nothing in the drive or in the picker I think this suggest that there is no media in the drive right?
Also I did try to move random tape to the drive but it take long time and I did cancel the move by using the reset button
When running the backup job it take some times but I can see that tape is moved to the drive but then the drive is offline
This device is in a data center so i cannot remove all of the tapes but i will try the option that you suggested and wait and see what heppens
In mean time you said if the test faild that means there is a problem with the drive so I have 2 questions
1. Is this means the drive is defect?
2. Device is almost 4 years old what is our options here? I mean such expensive device shouldnt now be useles right? can we replace the drive?
Thanks
I did run the manul moving of a tape to drive it toke almost 30 minut but finally i can see the tape is in the drive but the same time i can see an error that says move failed
also when tape is in process of moving in the console I can see the drive status is ideal and it says drive is present
moveing tape from drive to its slot goes fast and after that the drive status shows empty
We did update the firmware version to 9 for both the drive en the picker but unfortunatly when moving a rendom tape to drive the tape get faster loaded but still get the same error
When you get the error when trying to load the media into the drive do you get any SCSI or SAS errors in the system event viewer? If you do what is the event ID’s that it shows. If you are not getting any errors in the system event viewer then it is going to be an issue with the drive and the drive will need to be replaced.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Today i came back from the short vacation and findout that we did repalce the drive with a new one
Today i move a rendom tape to the drive and went ok but when run the tape inventory from the backup exact i get an error again on the device i send you an screenshot of the error
I check the windows log and see the error 58053
Why even after repalceing the drive we still get this error
When you swapped the PV124T did you go through the tape install wizard in backup exec? If not then I would run through that & make sure that the PV124T is using the Symantec drivers for the tape drive & not using the windows or dell drivers.
Looking at the screen shot that you took it looks like there is an issue with the last tape that was inserted into the drive. I would inspect that media as there is an issue with it. The TAflag 13 error is in reference to that. The TAflag 55 is most likely the cause of the TAflag 13 as if it could eject the media our or there is still some media wrapped around the heads in the drive. The TAflag04 is saying that there is a possible issue with the media and it should no longer be used unless needed for a recovery.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
No we didnot go throuw wizard but i want to add that the device working correctly now
You are right there is an problem with that one media i can inventory and backup with the new drive but ehen try to inventory that tape the error get logged so i decided to stop using that tape

Hello mrshahin,
Thanks for the screen shots. I can see that you are currently running V.85 firmware on your PV124T. One thing that I would do is to try & upgrade the firmware on your system to V.91 as there are some improvments to media loading & unloading. Here is the link to the firmware. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=PKNV9&fileId=3392970260&osCode=WNET&productCode=powervault-124t&languageCode=EN&categoryId=TA
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
