Powervault MD1200 Disks Missing

Our Command experienced a planned power loss last night and one of the users in a remote building did not power off his Powervault MD1200 RAID array.  Once his UPS expired, the RAID did a hard power-down.  This morning, when power came back up he found 6 of the 12 disks did not power-up.  When I originally configured it for him, all 12 disks were on a single PERC interface from the PowerEdge R710 to a single interface on the Powervault, and the entire array was configured as one logical device an partition in a RAID6 configuration.

While troubleshooting I found all 12 disks to physically be fine as they run diagnostics okay on power-up.  If I plug the SAS cable into interface 0, drives 0-5 power up.  If I plug it into interface 1, drives 6-11 power up.  However, when I go into the PERC setting on the server, controller 0 has all 12 drives (as it should) but the unpowered ones show up as "not present".

So, my question is how do I get this back to it's original condition - Controller 0, Interface 0 w/all 12 drives in my RAID6?  It's like the PERC knows all 12 drives are supposed to be there, but the RAID Array interface only thinks it should see 6 of them.  Does anyone have a fix for this?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Dimustrace,

It sounds like when your power was restored that MD1200 & your R710 both boot at the same time. What I would do is to power down both the server and the MD1200. Once both are off then I would power on the MD1200 & give it about 5 minutes to fully boot up. Once the MD1200 is up then I would boot the server and go into the PERC bios to make sure that all drives are seen & online. I would also check the selector switch on your MD1200 to make sure that it is not in split bus mode. Here is a link to the users guide & if you look on page 7-8 there is a picture of the selector switch & which mode is which. http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-md1200_Setup%20Guide_en-us.pdf
