powevault 660f (physical disk is switching)

I have one poweredge 2360 server, with windows 2000. I have 2 FC cards in the server. Each card goes to each side of one 660f array and then that array is daisy chained to another array as well.

They have worked fine for 5 years until 3 months ago, and this is whats happening.

I keep getting Physical disk is switching and back end fibre dead in the event log.

Then array manager doesnt find the disks, and the drives are flashing yellow. I force them online. They work for about a day or two, then I must re do the whole process. Sometimes I have to reboot the server.

The FC cards in the server are fine, I tested them. Is it an interface on the back of the 660F.

The arrays are now empty so data loss is not something to worry about.

Now's a great time to call support.  If you have drives switching channels and the back end fiber going dead/alive...then it sounds like an LS Module isn't a happy camper.

Call support, they'll take care of you.

thanks, thats what I thought, do you have any idea on how much those cost?

These units are about 5 years old. Back when 1TB was the biggest they made.

thanks!

Either LS module or could be a drive dropping.

Also get in there and blow out excess dust or debris.

Bank-end fibre dead very common on these as they get older.

Spare parts are easy to find in used market.

I had kind of the same problem and is because of dust on the modules... take off the modules and use contact cleaner or something like that and air compressed to clean the chasis before try something else.

Yes, minorsolis has right!

Remove all the components, then use compressed air to clean everything. I suffer a lot by that in the past with my PV660F but once I clean all the equipment all works fine again.
