Problem in reading DDS4 tape with DAT72 TapeDrive

Hardware: PowerEdge 2850 / Redhat ES V3.0 / DAT72 TapeDrive

I encountered an problem in reading DDS4 tape generated by DAT20 [installed on IBM AIX machine], but no problem found as performed the other way around.

Anything do with the formating?

You should be able to read a tape on your DAT72 generated by a DAT40.
A DAT 72 drive can read and write DDS-4 tapes however it uses the DDS-4 format so the full advantage of DAT 72 is lost.
Drives are not forward compatible so you should not be able to read the tape written on your DAT 72 by the DAT 20 drive.

Yes the formatting has a lot to do with it. The DAT 72 tapes write in narrower tracks increasing the density over the DDS-4 tapes.
