PV715--Hardware upgrade options

Does anyone know what hardware upgrade options are available for a PV715N?

Specifically:  CPU (fastest), Memory (total) and GB NIC?

Currently I have 1 ghz, 512 ram and only 100mb nics.

I can provide my service tag if needed.

Thanks.

The maximum processor that has been tested/sold with this unit is a 1.13Ghz.

The maximum dimm size that has been tested/sold is 1 GB.

As you've probably noticed, the system has 1 32bit/33Mhz PCI slot. Assuming you don't have that occupied, you could put in a Gigabit nic. The only tested/sold model Dell offered when this system was being offered was a Broadcom (5701 model).

If you end up needing to reinstall, you will have to use the onboard nic for that again.

Before spending too much money on trying to max out a PV715N, you may want to consider looking into a new PV745N. They currently start at $1299 (this is on 3/11/05 in the small business division). One big advantage is that the PV745N has actual keyboard, mouse and monitor jacks, which make it easier to work with for setup or OS recovery. It also uses a USB key for part of the OS reinstall when needed, which makes the reinstall process a lot easier.
