Python 06408 problem

Question

During backup my tape drive ate my tape and the lights on the drive were blinking. I restarted my server and now it will not accept a tape. Any ideas how to troubleshoot? Thanks.

Did you get the destroyed tape out of the drive? If so what kind of condition was it in?

There may really be nothing you can do with the drive, it may have just broke (not the answer you want to hear i know)

If you can power down the server and pause the system during POST prior to the tape drive being scanned by the scsi controller. While the server is paused try to insert another tape.

Check inside the tape door for anything obstructing the tape path.

other than that I'm at a loss.

Yes, the tape just appeared to be broken.  I can't see any remains left in the drive, the LED's were blinking angrily.

Is the tape drive internal to the server or is this an external unit?

There are no LED's or anything now, just as if the power was diconnected, I'll check inside the case. thanks.
