Question about varanty

Hello,

I am planning to expand the storage capacity of a Dell PowerVault ME5 series array by purchasing additional disks.

Currently, the array utilizes 8 disk slots with Dell-branded drives (PN: MZILG1T9HCJRAD3).

My question is: if I add additional drives with the same part number (PN), but not Dell-branded — for example, manufactured by Samsung — will this affect or void the warranty in any way?

Hello!

Adding non-Dell branded drives to your Dell PowerVault ME5 series array can indeed affect the warranty. Dell's warranty policy typically requires that any hardware added to their systems be Dell-certified to ensure compatibility and support. Using third-party drives, even if they have the same part number, may void the warranty or limit support options.

Thanks

@DELL-Marco B

Thank you for the answer.

Just to clarify — if I purchase, for example, the following hard drive:

NRR34 2.5" MZILG1T9HCJRAD3 1.92TB SSD 512e Samsung DSG9 No

from a vendor, and it has the correct model number but not the Dell Part Number, would that void the warranty?

We cannot guarantee that it will work because it doesn't have Dell firmware
