SCSi card for PV 114T R310
I have a R310 w/SBS 2011 currently using windows backup to external usb drive. I would like to make use of a PV 114T w/Dat72 enclosure that we have, for off site l.o.b. backups, and I need to find out if I can still get a SCSI card for either of the open x8 slots in the R310 server. It is configured with the integrated 6i so it says both slots are open.
Anyone know which card is proper for these slots?
I am not too familiar with the R310 yet.

Hello Buddieboy,
The controller card that you will need to get your PV114t seen by the server is a Dell LSI 2032 scsi card. You can do a search for the that controller you can find one from one of our dell resellers or you can contact your Dell sales rep & they can help you as well locate one.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I could not get this card from Dell, as it is no longer sold, so I did get one from another source. It turned out to be an HP LSI20320IE (same card with HP bios loaded).
It makes the server hang on boot right at or before the log in scrfeen (ctrl_alt_del) every time, no matter what pci-e slot. I have not gone into the very basic boot menu (F8) for the card yet.

I did get chance to try the card again. It seems to lock up the server about when it is automatically trying to install a driver for the new found hardware. How can I get a driver installed before the card is installed?
Providing I could locate a pc with a 2x or greater slot that is free could I flash it with the dell bios file? Would this card even work for this application? It seems the cards are all the same, LSI version (LSI20320IE or LSI00154), Dells version (LSI2032) and the HP version (LSI2032IE). Is actually a difference? The cards that are pulled from Dell servers have the same LSI20320IE part # on them as the rest.
I have heard of some people changing the bios from an HP build to an LSI or other.

Thx for your reply Sam.
One side note - This occurs with or withjout the PV114T attatched.
You will have to excuse my ignorance on this issue, I am not sure how to load drivers, for the card, that no not come as an .exe installation file. I am aware of how to do this manually when a device is already detected but not for one that is not yet physicly installed in the system.
Currently i do not have a pc available that has a 2x or greater pci-x slot, besides the server, with which I could flash the card.

Hello Buddieboy,
What I would suggest is that you try to see if you can load the dell drivers for the card & see if they will take. If they do then I would power off the server and then power on the PV114T & wait for it to come to an idle state then once that happens then I would boot the server & watch the boot to see if it finds the PV114T in the scsi card bios. If you still are getting a BOSD using the dell drivers then I would say that you will need to see if you can remove the HP bios off the card & see if it will take LSI bios for the card.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
