Server 2012 doesn't recognize Dell Powervault LTO4-eh1

I'm trying to get this Dell Powervault LTO4 tape drive to work with backup exec 2014. The server is a Dell PE T610 with Server 2012 standard. The card is Dell PERC 6/E adapter which shows up in the device manager and is working properly. With the LTO4 connected to it still isn't being recognized.

I have tried the drivers recommended in the following post with no luck.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello 3s1k,

Your issue is the PERC6/e. For a tape drive to be seen in your T610 server you need to use either a PERC h200 or a 6GB SAS controller. Now the PERC6’e is a 6GB Raid controller only & the fact that it is looking at the tape drive looking for the Raid information is why the drive is not seen. Now the PERC H200 can work for either Raid or be a SAS pass through card, & that is why if you hook up the PERC H200 to the tape drive it can sense that there is no raid information & switches to pass through & acts like a SAS card. Here is also the support matrix for the tape drive & if you look on page 6 you can see the internal cards listed you would need if the drive was going to be internal & on page 9 for the cards needed for an external tape drive. ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-lto4-120hh_Reference%20Guide9_en-us.pdf

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello 3s1k,

The link to the card that you posted is the correct card that is needed so that you can get the LTO4 seen by the server.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I checked Symantec's HCL to see if my LTO4 drive is on there and I don't see the exact model. I do see Dell LTO4 120 or 120HH but I don't see my eh1 model. I contacted symantec and they said if the exact model isn't on the HCL they can guarantee it will work but for me to try it anyways. Easier said than done since I'd have to buy the card first and if it doesn't we just lost $200.

Hello 3s1k,

The drive that you have is an LTO4 120HH drive.  since you are looking by model it may not show up but the drivers and firmware that you use for the drive is the same as an LTO4 120HH drive there for it will work with Symantec.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
