Several questions...Perc H800 related

So, my home server consists of a PE R710 with a single (for now) PV MD1200 attached to it.  OMSA software will not do anything as far as connecting to the host machine to add drives to a RAID6 array.  I am trying to expand that array, but the Expand VD Size option is grayed out.  I am using all Seagate ST6000NM0034 drives in this enclosure, and will use them in the next one, too.  I am told that the firmware that "unlocks" the H800 was released all the way back in June or so of 2010.  I'm running what appears to be the latest firmware in the card...12.10.7-0001.  So, I thought about using the Dell firmware on my drives to make it look like I'm running cert'd Dell drives instead of Seagates, but that option didn't pan out, either.  Said that my configuration wasn't supported.  I don't quite understand that, but I can't do anything about it.  If I can't get around this via software, I will have to delete the VD, and rebuild it.  I know that's hard on everything, but I don't know what else to do.  BTW, this is all running on Windows 10.  I appreciate your help.

Hello Joe,

Are you trying to create your virtual disk on your MD1200 or in your R710 server?  You can’t expand your VD in your server with your MD1200.  The VD on your MD1200 will need to be on it’s own PERC H800 and will not see your drives that is internal to your R710.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I should have been more clear on exactly what the drive configuration is.  The R710 has 5x4T in a RAID0 array.  This is being left alone.  It is controlled by a H700.  The MD1200 currently has 7x6T in RAID6 that I want to expand by five drives to fill the enclosure up.  That MD1200 is controlled by the H800.  All the drives in the MD1200 are the same...Seagate ST6000NM0034.

Hello Joe,

If you reboot your host and go into the controllers bios can you expand your virtual disk or is that option still greyed out?  I have seen some cases that in OMSA it won’t work but you go into the controller bios it does work.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

No, sir.  Even after a handful of reboots for varying reasons, that option is still greyed out.  I do have the means to do full backups, and then delete the VD, and go again, but that's obviously not ideal.  Thanks again.

Hello Joe,

I am going to send you a private message.  If I can get you to send me your controller log from your PERC card so that I can review it to see what is going on.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
