Did you set up a cluster and move the cluster resource to the other server?

If you don't have a cluster set up, it's not unusual to have unexpected behaviour concerning disk access.

I am not using mscs. I have both nodes connected to the shared array because there is some data that both nodes need to share.

Its not a database. I am running iis on both nodes and nlb. so both nodes are active

You'll need to put the 220 into split bus mode if you're going to have two servers connected and NOT run in a cluster.  You won't be able to run in joined bus because having the second server connected will get ya some bus hanging and other bus panic issues.

If you're not running in cluster mode and have two servers connected without being in an active clsuster using MSCS, you're going to see strange access issues.

Two seperate computers can not share the same drives at the same time. If you had it set up in cluster mode then the second computer could take "control" of the drives that the first computer initially had in the event of a failure.
