Simple Lab Setup Help needed

Hi, I am trying to setup a simply lab set and would like to get your advise on the best way to set it up.

I have two Dell PE 410 servers and an MD 3200i. I plan to setupi VMWare ESXi on these (simple setup, free esxi versions). I am not looking for any fancy VM features.

My servers each have a total of 4 NIC ports (two on the MB and two on an Add-ON card). MD3200 has two controller cards with 4+1 Admin ports.

For networking, I have one Dell Power Connect 5524 (24 port /Gb) and one Cisco 2950 (24 port, 10/100) switch. (There is another switch available which is used for Corporate Network access).

My VMs will need to be able to serve on 3 different lab subnets plus one corporate network connection.

What is the best way to cable these devices to get the most out of these? what what subnetting would you recomend? I have looked at the documentation and most discusses multiple switches etc. MD3200i will not be used by any device other than these two servers. I can create VLANS as needed.

I know single GB switch will leave me with a single point of failure and perhaps performance issues but unfortunately this is all I have right now.

Thank you for any help.

When connecting 2 servers to an MD32XXi, from what you saying you will want a setup something similar to the diagram on pg. 22 of the deployment guide.

support.dell.com/.../DG.pdf

The picture show a lot more then 2 hosts but it’s the same idea with 2 hosts and 4 NICs.  You can then configure the VLANs how you want them configured. It also gives you an example of how to setup the IP address on the MD3200i. You want to have each port a different subnet for each port on both controllers. That is also on the bottom of page 22.

You will also want to make sure you install the MDSM software on a Windows system so that you can manage the MD3200i system.  Here is the link for that MDSM software just in case you don’t have it.

I hope this answers your questions. If there is anything else please feel free to let me know.
