Soft/Hard Read/Write Errors Help.
Hello i am using the Dell PowerVault T110 with Veritas Backup Exec 9.1. My backup schedule is:
Two Backups A Day (Mon. - Fri.)
One for SQL
Second one for everything else
The tapes for the SQL I've been using for well over a month which are close to NEW, and the other tapes; they have been here ever since i started my job which was in Sept.
My concern is that when i run a backup either the SQL or i guess i can say FULL backups i get all kinds of errors in Veritas. Before the SQL backup this morning i went into the Drive Properties and reseted the cleaning statistics, and even cleaned the drive. After the SQL backup completed this morning, under the "Media" --> "Media Sets" in Veritas I found the backup that ran and here are the statistics:
Total bytes written:284 GB
Total bytes read:257 GB
Total mounts:11
Total seeks:361
Total hours in use:18.4
Seek errors:0
Soft read errors:280
Hard read errors:4
Soft write errors:138814
Hard write errors:0
And under the Devices menu in Veritas i right clicked my drive and went into the properties to see the cleaning statistics and under the "Errors since last cleaning" i found this:
Seek errors: 0
Soft read errors: 0
Hard read errors: 0
Soft write errors: 4224
Hard write errors: 0
OK. Reading those errors just confused me. I thought under the "Media Set" said i had other kinds of errors. Whats going on here? I really need this explained to me. Is this bad? Is it my drive? Thanks for the HELP!
