[Solved] Drive error in 124T
Hi,
I bought a used Powervault 124T with a LTO-4 drive (SAS).
Using bareos, when finishing the first tape (when writing the final EOF) I am getting I/O errors.
I suspect the drive being dirty and already did about 10 cleaning cycles.
Did not help :-(
In the drive logs there is:
Type (3B) 2018-May-05 21:08:30.265 #009 Drive Reported a Hardware Error
and
Drv Prev Removal Type (46) 2018-May-18 19:35:04.878 #011
Are there any possibilities to clean the drive manually without replacing it?
Thanks and regards,
Otto

Hi
What firmware does your drive have?
The 124T uses IBM and Quantum drives, the quantum lto4 being particularly bad.

Hello otto001,
The errors that you are getting is stating that there is a hardware error and the tape was not removed from the drive in the timeout window. What drivers are you using for your medium changer and tape drive? Also, what is the OS that you are using as well. You can clean the drive by inserting a cleaning media into the drive & it will clean it.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi!
Just retried a backup and I have the following errors in the web-interface (logs do not show errors):
Flags[1-64]:0000100002000000
TA[20]-CleanNow
TA[39]-DiagnosticsRqrd
In the log of the backup-program (bareos) I have:
I cleaned the drive just before. Any help would be great!
Regards,
Otto

Hello otto001,
Can I get you to login to the web utility of your PV124T and go to the Error Log and Diagnostics Page, & save the log & send it to me so that I can review it? I will send you an email that you can reply to with the logs.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi!
Thanks a lot! In the end it was not a drive problem but a broken tape. Stupid me. Did the tests with the same tape always (but I just got the drive..)
Regards,
Otto
