There are two primary installations with the Open Manage Server suite, Managed Node and Management Station. To configure storage on a card internal to the server Open Manage Storage Services, a component of the Managed Node, needs to be installed.
IT Assistant is part of the Management Station install and can be used to monitor the Dell assets in your infrastructure. ITA can launch the Modular Disk Storage Manager or OMSS directly, however ITA is not used for configuring storage. That is why MDSM was referenced during the ITA install.
Modular Disk Storage Manager is the management client to configure the external shared storage arrays MD3000 and MD3000i.
The net is that you need to install the Open Manage->Managed Node->Storage Services component on your server.

Which model of Dell server is your MD1000 connected to? You can normally find OpenManage listed under the server on the Dell driver page.
