Storage Manager help text not visible remotely
When I run SMclient (from MD Storage Manager) for my MD3000i over a remote ssh connection with X forwarding, the main display is fine, but any help windows come up with no text at all. I think this is something to do with Java font handling but I'm not quite sure where to start debugging it.

What about just installing MDSM on your desktop and monitoring from there across the network (to the management ports of the MD3000i)?

I'll try that, though I'll have to use a VM as my desktop isn't running a supported OS.
Thanks for the suggestion.
One odd wrinkle is that the text does appear if I connect via an SSH proxy from an external network.

MDSM is available for Linux and Windows (both come on the resource cd). If you're running OS X you'll indeed need a VM running Linux or so.
