TL4000_Logical libraries

Hi Team,

One of our clients has purchased Dell TL4000(Service tag removed by moderator) with 2x drives. The backend interface is FC with 2x FC interface at the back which are zoned to server and both ULTaruim drives are visible and in optimal state in the device manager.

The customer is using ArcServe to take the backup which is working fine.

 Now the problem is customer is trying to partition  the TL4000 into 2 logical libraries. Which according to them they are unable to achieve via ArcServe.

So I tried to partition the library via the control panel and web int. But I am unable to achieve this as illustrated in the below snapshot.

Please advice.

Best Regards

Hello jaju,

Ok there are a few thing that need to be done to ensure that your setup is correct. Now you state that you have 2 FC drives, but need to know if they are full height drives or half height? You can tell by looking at the drives & if they fill the complete drive bay space from top to bottom then they are full height drives otherwise they are half height. Also need to know what version of firmware is on the unit currently?

Also I have found that it is easier to do the setting up of the logical library from the web utility. What you need to do is to first make sure that the library is set to random mode. Once that is done then you will need to set both drives as control path drives. Once both drive are set to control path drives then you will need to reduce the slots to about half of the total amount so that you will have slot for both libraries. Then once the slots have been split then you should be able to make 2 logical libraries with 24 slots each. Here is a link to the user guide & if you look on page 39 or Chapter 3 it explains about splitting the unit. ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-tl4000_User%27s%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Sam,

Hope you will be doing fine.

Below are the snaps from the GUI of the TL4000.

=>  Drive 1 STATUS "Idle"

=>  Drive STATUS "Ready"

And i am unable to configure/modify the logical library setting "it only gives 1 as an option which is selected by default" as shown in the below snap.

CONTROL PATH OPTION "selected " for the second drive but nothing change, as shown in below snap

Please advice..

Best Regards

Hello jaju,

Can I get you to tell me what version of firmware that your library is at.  If you check the Library identity page it will list the library firmware.  I am thinking that you might be running an old firmware on the library that is preventing you from making the change.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Sam, we are having this exact same issue with a newly configured TL4000 (Currently Installed Library Firmware  C.30 / 3.20e ). Only difference is that we are using SAS IBM drives. We are unable to configure the logical library partitions through the web or control panel UI. With the same SAS drives we were able to configure the 2 libraries on a TL2000 with the same firmware. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Kurt
