Update for Veritas Backup Exec v9.1

Update for Veritas Backup Exec v9.1

This document provides instructions for installing Veritas Backup Exec v9.1 for Microsoft® Windows® Servers in a DELL|EMC storage area network (SAN) environment with Windows Server 2003.

NOTE: This procedure applies only to SAN environments where the Qlogic or Emulex Storport storage device driver is installed.

1. Install the latest Microsoft Windows Server 2003 storport.sys hotfix. As of this update, the latest hotfix is KB837413. Download this hotfix HERE.

2. If you are using the Qlogic fibre channel adapter, go to step 3.

&nbspIf you are using Emulex fibre channel adapters, set up Persistent Binding for tape devices. (See the Emulex documentation for information about how to set up Persistent Binding.) After you complete the setup for Persistent Binding, reboot the server.

3. Insert the Veritas Backup Exec v9.1 for Windows Servers CD into your CD drive and start the program installation.

4. When the Veritas Tape Device Drivers screen appears, select the Use Veritas device drivers for all tape devices option.

NOTE: Do not reboot the system at the end of the installation even when you are prompted to do so by the installation.

5. From the operating system Services applet, stop the Removable Storage service (RSM).

NOTE: Do not disable the RSM service, just stop the service.

6 Install the Veritas plug and play (PnP) tape device drivers by running the tapeinst.exe program in the Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT directory.

&nbspOn the Veritas Device Driver installer screen, select the Use Veritas tape drivers for all tape devices option and the Use Plug and Play drivers option. The installation of the tape class drivers will take several minutes.

NOTE: Do not reboot the system at the end of the installation even when you are prompted to do so by the installation.

7. Install the latest Veritas Backup Exec v9.1 for Windows Servers Device Driver Installer (DDI). You can download this updated installer from the Veritas website. After installation, reboot the server.

8. Install the Backup Exec v9.1 for Windows Servers HOTFIX 19.

NOTE: The System event viewer may display several Removable Storage error messages. Please disregard these error messages.

NOTE: If at any time the Veritas tape class drivers need to be reinstalled, you must perform the procedure described in step 6.
